The purpose of the fund, which was established in November 2009, is dedicated to the improvement and sustainability of the city of Woodbine, KS.

Meet Woodbine

Discover the charm of Woodbine, Kansas—a small community nestled in the Flint Hills of southeast Dickinson County. Located along Kansas Highway 209 and U.S. Highway 77, Woodbine boasts a population of 160 residents, 60 homes, a church, and a handful of businesses, including an elevator, restaurant, bank, and heating and cooling business.

Completed Projects

Woodbine Mural - The Community Foundation of Dickinson County and the Kansas Department of Commerce’s Office of Rural Prosperity provided grant funding for this mural project. Artist Mindy Allen, Mindy’s Murals, painted the mural in 2022 on the side of Woodbine's City Hall.

Future Project

Iron Horse Trail - Woodbine is located at the end of the 20-mile Iron Horse Trail, which begins in Abilene and will connect the communities of Abilene, Enterprise, and Woodbine.

Woodbine Community Projects for Potential Donors

1. City Park Enhancements

Description: Enhancements to the Woodbine City Park aim to improve recreational facilities and community spaces.

  • Playground Expansion: Add playground equipment to the Woodbine City Park.
  • Merry-Go-Round Restoration: Restoration of the iconic merry-go-round from the former school for community enjoyment.
  • Disc Golf Course: Collaboration with Discs Unlimited in Herington to add a disc golf course in Woodbine, creating a "Disc Golf Trail" in Dickinson County.
  • Pickleball Courts: Construction of pickleball courts to meet the growing demand for this popular sport.

2. City Gymnasium Restoration

Description: Restoration projects for the City Gymnasium to preserve the historic building and enhance community use.

  • Tuckpoint Project (Completed): Completed with a donation from the Tracy W. Gatch Fund at the Community Foundation of Dickinson County.

Upcoming Projects:

  • Repainting the gymnasium's exterior.
  • Replacing the gymnasium's windows.

These projects ensure the longevity of the building and its continued contribution to the community.

Small Town, Big Internet.

Thanks to the Council Grove-based Tri-County Telephone (TCT) for installing fiber to the home more than ten years ago. Because of TCT, a Gig-Certified Provider, Woodbine is considered a Smart Rural Community by the NTCA – Rural Broadband Association.

In addition, Vyve Broadband added its fiber line in 2023.
