Goal: $10,000.00
Specific Need
Donated funds support the Quality Of Life Coalition's efforts to promote healthy living: including the increasing need to educate youth about the dangers of electronic cigarette use (vape, juul, puffbar.)
Mission
The Quality of LIfe Coalition, Inc. serves as a catalyst to promote social, physical and mental well-being for the residents of Dickinson County, placing an emphasis on the reduction of youth substance use, and to foster a thriving environment in which to live, work, play and learn.
Profile
The Quality of Life Coalition is a non-profit agency formed in 1991 by a grassroots group concerned about the health and well-being of citizens. "Abilene Family Affair Committee's" name was changed in 1997 to The Quality of Life Coalition, Inc., a 501c-3. Quality of Life Coalition (QLC) and its work group, the Leadership Team, have a history of collaboration: with more than 60 local agencies and individuals that share the common goal to improve the health and well-being of the community through efficient and effective programs and services that enhance physical activity, healthy eating and tobacco free living for the community at large. Through the strength of these partnerships, the Quality of LIfe Coalition brings in grant funds from sources such as the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, BCBSKS Pathways for a Healthy Community and the Kansas Department on Aging and Disability Services.
The Quality of Life Coalition provides education and evidence-based programs such as "Taking Down Tobacco", "ASIST" (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), "It Matters" Campaign (targeting youth alcohol and marijuana use and the associated risk factor of depression/suicide)," Alcohol True Stories hosted by Matt Damon", and "More Than Sad" (depression education for middle school studdents.)
Local dollars are required to match some of these grant funded opportunities, and the Community Foundation of Dickinson County Endowment program is an excellent way to keep these dollars local and doing the work of improving health outcomes for our community members.
